The Washington Times has obtained an internal document that indicates that House Democrats have no intention of reauthorizing the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program, in stark contrast to Dick Durbin’s and other’s claims that the program would receive a fair hearing. It seems the plan is to let the current scholarship recipients continue to receive the scholarships but to let the program die by fading out.
We need to advocate for reauthorization hearings. Contact your senator or congressional representative and let them know that we don’t just want to save the scholarships of the 1,700 kids currently enrolled, but that we want the program to be reauthorized so more families can enjoy the same opportunity to choose a good school for their kids that Dick Durbin, President Obama, and 45% of the Senate enjoys.
